Motivation: The Research and Innovation group, as part of Atos Spain, concentrates on the realisation of international projects, combining the most up-to-date technological developments (in areas such as cloud computing, smart objects, services, etc.) with an accute awareness of the human factors (education sciences, disability-related issues, etc.). For this reason, this multi-disciplinary and multicultural team is composed of experts in different knowledge areas, who apply all their knowledge to the achievement of the most balanced solutions. The Service Engineering & IT Platforms (SEIP) Lab focuses its research in Cloud Computing, Service and Software Engineering and Open Source technologies. It investigates advanced capabilities of Cloud Infrastructures, Software tools and Open Source communities as well as new tools and techniques for advances PaaS and SaaS. The SEIP Lab is under the Information Technologies sector that fosters the adoption of Lab technologies and research towards the software industry and other business units at ATOS.
Related Competences: ATOS has extensive expertise in large project management (OPTIMIS, BeinGRID, ORCHESTRA, DEWS, SOA4ALL, ARTIST, STORK, etc) and technical participation in European projects for more than 20 years. The research and innovation group at ATOS brings deep expertise in service engineering and cloud computing into GENiC backed up by experience in projects such as Secse, SOA4ALL, COIN, Optimis, Cloud4SOA, SmartLM, iCargo as well as national research projects. Additionally, the group has also expertise in virtualization workload management in data centres (CoolEmAll) and Cloud application programming interface extensions and mechanisms for collecting eco-metrics at infrastructure and Virtual Machine (VM) level (ECO2Clouds). ATOS researchers are also well skilled in agile software development methodologies and complex software integration processes. Finally, Atos brings its business approach to the project with experts in marketing and business models in the technology domain.
Role in the Project: ATOS will provide the Dissemination and Exploitation Manager (WP7) and lead these activities in WP7. Atos will lead the Integration and Validation work package (WP5) and will contribute to the decision support framework in WP4, the energy aware workload management in WP3 and selected demonstration activities in WP6. Atos will also contribute to the best practice review, requirements capture and use case definition in WP1 according to its expertise as a Data Center owner and operator.
